ABOUT ANDREA ZITTEL
Currently living in Joshua Tree, CA, Zittel received her BFA from San Diego State University, and MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. Her first post-school venture was A-Z East, a small row house in Brooklyn turned into a showroom and testing grounds for her prototypes for living. She returned to the west coast to found A-Z West—the current site of her studio practice. Zittel’s work has been included in major group exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale, Documenta, and the Whitney Biennial. She has had solo exhibitions at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Carnegie Museum in Pittsburgh, the Whitney Museum of American Art and more.

“With a lot of my work I have been trying to show how these concepts of individualism are reflected in our homes and possessions. A few hundred years ago, the private individual realm didn’t exist in people’s homes. Now we’re so obsessed with the details of our homes and how they reflect our personalities and our characters. And this seems to coincide perfectly with a new emphasis on peoples’ inner selves. The two go hand in hand—so that in some ways our interiors have actually become externalized reflections of our soul. –Artist, Andrea Zittel
