Portland, OR — (SBWIRE) — 09/27/2017 — Polyetheramide, abbreviated as PEBA, is a high-performance thermoplastic elastomer and is widely used as an alternative of common elastomers such as polyester elastomers, thermoplastic polyurethanes, thermoplastic polyurethanes, and silicones. The most widely sold brands of polyetheramide are VESTAMID E by Evonik Industries and PEBAX by Arkema S.A. It is a block copolymer obtained by the polycondensation of carboxylic acid polyamides with an alcohol termination polyether. Although being highly sensitive to UV degradation, it offers superior dynamic and mechanical properties such as impact resistance, flexibility, fatigue resistance, energy return, lower density, and resistance against a broad category of chemicals. Moreover, major applications of PEBA include sports equipment, damping system components, outsoles of shoes, and winter sports wear. PEBA is used in medical products, such as catheters, due to its better flexibility and mechanical properties at both high and low temperatures. Some hydrophilic grades of PEBA are also used for their anti-dust and antistatic properties.
