About the Exhibition
Contemporary photographer Selina Roman peers into the psyche of her subjects in this mesmerizing and thought-provoking exhibition. Her photographs, which incorporate playfully intimate interactions of people in undisclosed motel rooms, gives us an evocative glimpse into the relationships we build and the spaces we choose to inhabit.
This exhibition is made possible in part by the support of the Arts Council of Hillsborough County and the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners.
About the Artist
Selina Roman was born in Florida in 1978. Trained as a print journalist, Roman ferreted out stories of injustice in marginalized communities such as migrant farm workers and the poor. After working in journalism, Roman spent five years in Miami at an international security and investigations firm where she became privy to the inner workings of the private-sector intelligence community. While in Miami, she immersed herself in the city’s fashion industry where she shot fashion campaigns for a local designer and honed her personal photographic style that mixed elements of fashion and reportage. Roman received her Masters of Fine Arts degree from the University of South Florida in 2013. Her work, which questions ideas of perception, power, protection and femininity, is in numerous private and public collections including the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art.
All RMCAD Gallery exhibitions are free and open to the public.
